Our name "excelsior!" means "ever higher" or "ever upward." Sed Coram Deo means "but in the presence of God." We chose this name and motto because they reflect our purpose for this organization. While we want our students to excel to their fullest potential, our desire is for them to do so for the glory of God and not for selfish ambition and pride. It is our hope that they will learn skills and develop talents that will eventually equip them to take the truth, compassion and hope of the Bible to those in their circle of influence.

Scripture says, "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings." (Proverbs 22:29) What an awesome promise! We can effect change in our world when we stand before kings! Also, on a day-to-day level, we are commanded in I Peter 3:15 to "... in your hearts set Christ apart as holy and acknowledge Him as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is within you, but do it courteously and respectfully." Again, it is our hope that these students may use their skills and talents to administer truth, love, joy, hope, purpose and forgiveness to their culture, wherever God may send them and in whatever vocation He may lead them.

Excelsior! is a not-for-profit corporation which will provide an opportunity for homeschool students to benefit from weekly classes in core subjects of music, art, technology and practical life skills. Additional elective courses will be offered that reflect the interests and talents of the student each year. Elective courses will change annually as deemed appropriate by members' interest level. Excelsior! will uphold Christian principles in all of its endeavors.

Qualified instructors who have degrees or considerable practical experience in their subject matter will be contracted to teach all classes. A variety of styles of music, art and electives will be encouraged. The courses will challenge the students to be disciplined, hard-working, moral and culturally well-rounded. Some classes will be by audition only for those students desiring to be pushed artistically.

Students will be encouraged to use their knowledge and the skills they gain from this organization to serve their community in such settings as nursing homes, hospitals, inner city youth ministries, prisons, rescue mission shelters and churches.
